SATs Revision
SATs Revision Opportunities in school Year 9 pupils at Kirk Balk are given plenty of opportunities to revise for the SATs tests which take place in May each year. The in-school revision programme includes the following:
- Dedicated revision within normal Maths lessons after Easter
- After School Revision Sessions
- Special Revision Work given to pupils to complete at home over Easter
- SATs Revison Conference Day
SATs Revision Opportunities at home
Pupils do not have to rely solely on the help of teachers when revising for the SATs tests. There are several other ways in which pupils can do meaningful revision at home including:
- Using one of the many SATS Revision Websites now on the internet.
- Answering the questions in a Maths SATs Revision Book
- Logging on and using Samlearning
SATs Revision Websites There are several SATs Revision websites now freely available on the internet. Most of these gives helpful hints and clear explanations for pupils studying for SATs tests. The best sites allow pupils to answer exam style questions and then the website automatically marks the work and gives explanations if the answer given is incorrect. The following revision sites are amongst those that are worth using:
About Samlearning The school has invested heavily to allow all pupils to be able to use the samlearning revision website free of charge. Pupils should click on the green LOG IN button (top left). The school's centre ID is S74KB. Each pupil has their own user name and password which is Date of Birth followed by two initials, first name then surname. For example: the user ID for David Jones, born 1st August 1985 would be 010885DJ
SATs Maths Revision Books
There are many Maths SATs revision books on the market at the moment that can be purchased at the larger bookshops. W.H.Smith at Meadowhall, for example, has a huge selection of suitable revision books mostly costing less than £5.00.
Revision within normal Maths lessons
Pupils revise all the main topics that can be tested in the SATs tests during their normal Maths lessons leading up to the SATs tests. This work takes the form of short tests, oral work, written exercises, ICT work and looking at past SATs questions. Homework is also be geared to revision. The Maths Department loan each pupil a SATs Maths Revision Guide to use in lessons during the weeks leading to the SATs Exams.
After School Revision Sessions
These take place in the weeks prior to the SATs exams. They last from 3.15pm to 4.15pm. Occasionally they may cancelled if the teacher involved has other commitments, for example, a Parents Evening. Details are given to pupils by their class teacher.
Pupils are asked to respect the fact that the Maths teachers are giving up their own time for these lessons and not to leave before the end of the session.
10-4-10 for the Easter Holidays
This work is in the form of a booklet entitled 10-4-10, meaning 10 minutes of work a day for 10 days. The booklet is be accompanied with a guide for parents to enable them to help their child over this peried of time.
SATs Revision Conference
This is a special all-day Revision Event organised in conjunction with Barnsley LEA and held at Foulstone C.L.C.. It will be for pupils who were targeted for a level 5 and who may have been struggling at the time. Transport is be provided to and from Kirk Balk School. Details of this event are given to pupils by their class teacher. |
