Hallam Pop Maths Quiz

This Quiz is organised by Hallam University in Sheffield and is open to teams from schools throughout the South Yorkshire region. Each team consists of a maximum of 6 pupils. The Quiz is organised along the lines of a pub quiz except of course all of the questions are about maths. There are in fact four seperate competitions taking place at the same time: one for Key Stage 2 pupils (years 5 and 6); one for Key Stage 3 pupils (years 7, 8 and 9); one for Key Stage 4 pupils (years 10 and 11) and one for Key Stage 5 pupils (years 12 and 13)

The 2007 Quiz

Kirk Balk did not enter a team in the 2007 Hallam Pop Quiz but hope to enter teams in for the 2008 competition.

The 2006 Quiz

The 2006 Hallam Pop Maths Quiz took place on Saturday 18th March. Over 1,000 from around 250 teams took part in one of the four competitions. See http://popmaths.com for more details.

The 2005 Quiz

The Hallam Pop Maths Quiz celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2005. Almost 1,000 pupils in over 150 teams took part in one of the four competitions which took place on Saturday 12th March. Kirk Balk School entered two teams from year 9 in the Key Stage 3 competition and two teams from year 11 in the Key Stage 4 competition.

The Year 11 teams: Man Ben Law, Tom Eanshaw, Daniel Wilson, Sam Hall, Chris Mann and Ben Gosling (left) Nicola Cook, Ryan Neal, Helen Manley, Michael Hardcastle, Lorna Harris, and James Callendar (right)

A shield is presented to the winning teams in each of the four competitions but the organisers don't announce ranking below first place. The teams from Kirk Balk all performed creditably but unfortunately didn't win one of the shields.
